Date Scones

Date Scones with a Hint of Orange & Spice (Thermomix®)
There’s something deeply comforting about a freshly baked scone — especially when it’s studded with plump dates and served warm with butter slowly melting into every nook. These Date Scones with a hint of orange and spice are one of those recipes you’ll come back to again and again.
The dates bring natural sweetness, the orange zest adds a gentle lift, and a touch of mixed spice gives just enough warmth without overpowering that classic scone flavour. Best of all, they’re quick and easy to make in the Thermomix®, making them perfect for weekend baking, morning tea, or an impromptu catch-up with friends.

A little Thermomix® magic
Using the Thermomix® means minimal handling (which scones love!) and a beautifully tender result. The dough is soft and slightly sticky, so a gentle touch is key — handle it as little as possible and you’ll be rewarded with lovely light scones.
Tips for Perfect Date Scones
- Handle gently: Scone dough loves a light touch. Mix just until combined and avoid overworking the dough to keep the scones soft and fluffy.
- Sticky is good: This dough is meant to be soft and slightly sticky. Use a lightly floured surface and hands, but don’t add too much extra flour.
- Cut cleanly: Use a sharp cutter and press straight down — twisting can stop the scones from rising evenly.
- Bake close together: Placing the scones close on the tray helps them rise taller and stay tender.
- Serve warm: These are at their best straight from the oven with butter, cream or jam.
- Freezer-friendly: Freeze baked scones once cooled. Reheat gently in the oven for a just-baked feel.
- Want less sweetness? Reduce the caster sugar slightly — the dates still bring plenty of natural sweetness.
